School Overview

School of Data Science: Growing and Innovating

The School of Data Science at UNC Charlotte, the first of its kind in the Carolinas, continues to lead in innovation and growth. With over 850 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs in Data Science, Health Informatics and Analytics, and Data Science and Business Analytics, the School is thriving. In Fall 2025, it will welcome its first cohort of Ph.D. candidates and launch the pioneering Bachelor of Science in Sports Analytics—a collaborative effort between the Colleges of Computing and Informatics and Health and Human Services.

Partnerships

Partnerships: APHCS and the School of Data Science

This program stems from a dynamic partnership between the School of Data Science (SDS) and the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences (APHCS).

APHCS advances health and well-being by promoting lifelong movement and activity across diverse populations through research, teaching, and service. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Exercise Science and Respiratory Therapy, as well as master’s programs in Kinesiology, Athletic Training, and Respiratory Care. SDS drives innovation by advancing data science education, research, and application to address complex societal challenges. It offers degree programs in Health Analytics and Data Science and Business Analytics. SDS equips students with the skills to analyze and interpret data, fosters collaboration across disciplines, and emphasizes ethical data practices.

Together, APHCS and SDS have developed a hands-on, innovative program that prepares students for careers in the rapidly growing field of Sports Analytics.
