A statistician at ESPN since 2013, John has collaborated with professional sports teams like the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets. In 2021, he launched Strength in Numbers, an initiative that champions diversity in sports analytics by supporting underrepresented groups.

Dr. Abbey Thomas, an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences (APHCS), adds a unique perspective to the program. Her research focuses on knee injuries and post-traumatic osteoarthritis. With a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, Dr. Thomas bridges kinesiology and analytics to address critical issues in sports medicine and athlete performance.

Michael Schuckers, a leader in the field of sports data science, recently joined UNC Charlotte’s School of Data Science. His prolific career includes consulting for NHL and MLB teams, trailblazing research in ice hockey analytics, and advancing biometric authentication technologies. A Fulbright Scholar and former professor at St. Lawrence University, Dr. Schuckers brings unmatched expertise and passion for the growing field of sports analytics.
