School of Data Science to host annual Analytics Frontiers Conference
The annual Analytics Frontiers Conference will be held at the UNC Charlotte Marriott Hotel and Conference Center on March 31. This is the largest data science conference in the region, attracting more than 500 thought leaders, scientists, and business executives from different industries and academia. Some of those industries include banking, retail, technology, and consulting.
This year’s agenda includes a keynote presentation by Mary L. Gray, author of the book Ghost Work: How to Stop Silicon Valley from Building a New Global Underclass, which explores the lives of people who are paid to train artificial intelligence and, increasingly, serve as “humans in the loop” delivering on-demand information services. Mary’s presentation will discuss topics drawn from her book, such as the rise of on-demand services and the labor conditions and market flows that organize it. Mary is also the Senior Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and a Faculty Associate at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. She maintains a faculty position in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering with affiliations in Anthropology, Gender Studies, and the Media School, at Indiana University.
The agenda also includes a panel moderated by Doug Hague, the School of Data Science’s Executive Director. The future of the data science economy will be discussed with panelists Jason Saine, Representative for the North Carolina General Assembly, Justin Horowitz, Vice President and Data Scientist at Bank of America, and Justin Adams, CEO and Board Chairman for Anduin.
Various faculty of UNC Charlotte will be speaking in breakout sessions throughout the day, including Jun Xu, Weidong Tian, and Fred Batista.
Breakout speakers from sponsor companies will be featured as well. Glenn Seagraves and Jessica Dunn from title sponsor Bank of America will speak on “Top 5 Reasons to Consider When Building a Data Science Platform”; Alice Liu from gold sponsor Wells Fargo will discuss “Comparing the Performance and Interpretability of Machine Learning Algorithms: Random”; Paul Saffer, Jeremie Rondeau and Aurélien Renard of gold sponsor Sia Partners will focus on “Listening to Customers – How AI Optimizes the Customer Experience Using Sentiment Analysis”; Kauê Cunha and Kendji Wolf of gold sponsor Qintess will be discussing “DataSUS: The power of public data to solve health problems in Brazil” and “How to use data analytics and Machine learning models to make great decisions”.
The full list of sponsors includes Bank of America, Lowe’s, Microsoft, Wells Fargo, Sia Partners, Qintess, and TigerGraph.
